Did you know? Pet pigs are still classed as farm animals in law. That means owners need the right registration, and pigs must never be fed kitchen scraps, even if they live in the garden!
Know your responsibilities
Keeping farm animals, even just a few, comes with some legal duties. In England, keepers of animals such as sheep, goats and pigs need to register their land and their animals before they arrive. Movement rules and record-keeping apply too.
Some diseases, such as bird flu and foot-and-mouth disease, are 'notifiable'. That means you must report suspected cases to the Animal and Plant Health Agency straight away. If you're unsure about any rules, check the latest government guidance, and ask us if you have questions about your animals' health.
Call us straight away if an animal: Is down and can't get up, is struggling to give birth, is bloated, has a serious injury, or is suddenly very unwell. Phone 01843 808344. We're available 24 hours a day.
