Where John's experience really shows

Every vet has things they love. John's are breathing in flat-faced breeds, teeth and bones – so that's where we've invested in training, kit and time.

Kennel Club RFG Scheme assessor badge

Flat-faced breeds & BOAS

Snoring isn't “just what they do.” Bulldogs, French Bulldogs and Pugs can suffer from BOAS – a breathing condition that affects how they sleep, eat, play and cope with heat.

John is an approved assessor for the Kennel Club and University of Cambridge's Respiratory Function Grading Scheme – one of a small number of vets trained to grade BOAS. His mentor, veterinary surgeon Tom Bingham, passed on a lifelong soft spot for Bulldogs (and Greyhounds).

  • RFG Scheme grading – for owners and breeders
  • BOAS surgery – when grading shows it's needed
  • Cherry eye surgery – common in brachycephalic breeds

Dentistry

Bad breath is often the first sign of a sore mouth – and pets are experts at hiding it. Animal dentistry is one of John's particular interests, from check-ups to full dental procedures under anaesthetic.

  • Surgical scale & polishfrom £450
Pet Dental Care

Orthopaedics & surgery

Limping, lumps, hernias and accidents. Orthopaedics is John's other big interest, backed by in-house X-ray and blood testing so we can investigate and operate without sending you elsewhere.

  • Orthopaedic & soft-tissue surgery
  • Lump and growth removal, hernia repair
  • Day and overnight hospitalisation
Orthopaedics

Breeders & reproduction

Licensed breeders trust us from mating to new homes: timing, safe deliveries and calm first vaccinations, with only the care your litter truly needs.

  • Progesterone testing for mating timing
  • Caesarean sections, day or night
  • Litter health checks, vaccinations & microchips
  • RFG Scheme grading for breeding decisions

Not just cats and dogs

Plenty of vets turn small furries, birds and farm animals away. We don't – owners travel to us for them, and our resident Amazon parrot, Mango, keeps us on our toes.

Rabbits, rats, birds & reptiles

Rabbit neutering, rat surgery, avian and reptile care – the small patients many practices can't see. Not sure if we can help yours? Just ask.

  • Rabbits & guinea pigs
  • Rats, hamsters & small furries
  • Parrots, birds & reptiles

Horses, smallholdings & farms

Whether you run a smallholding or have a much-loved pet pig, we'll come out to you – and we're here 24 hours a day if something goes wrong.

  • Visits to your farm or smallholding
  • Health checks, worming plans and treatment
  • Births, newborns and emergencies, day or night

Looking after you, every time

  1. We'll only ever recommend what your pet truly needs.
  2. A written estimate at your consultation.
  3. An itemised bill – and a call before we go over the estimate.
  4. A written prescription whenever you'd rather buy medicines elsewhere.
  5. Out of hours, you see our team, at our practice.
